Tuesday Night Blues..

Alright, So I never got around to publishing a blog post on all things BlizzCon Day #2. I don't think there is really anything that I could've said about Day 2, nothing really struck out as news worthy or even worth talking about. I'm a bit disappointed, but I'll live. I guess BlizzCon this year was one of those "you would've had to been there man..." kinda ordeals. So I guess I'll just apologize for another empty promise I've made in my life....

I don't know what is is, but these past couple of weeks have been really rough for me.. I've been thinking a lot about things, but it always puts me in a sour mood. So I'll just leave it at that, I don't want to to bore you all with my whining. Be on the look out for some more blog posts in the future. I can't promise I will be very regular with these posts. School is in full swing and until it winds down a bit, blogging is going to be a "when I have time for it" thing.

BlizzCon Day 1: Summary and Thoughts.

Alright, day one of BlizzCon really provide the community with a lot of new exciting information. Firelands, I'm looking at you.. However, there was just a little something missing from this years BlizzCon. Uhhhh...? No big announcement this year Blizz?I was in class, during the opening ceremony, anxiously awaiting my teacher to dismiss class. The moment he dismissed class, I practically ran back to my dorm, expecting to find the internet a buzz with "OMG BLIZZ", "GAME LOOKS ILL", but, there was none of that. Instead, twitter was rather quiet, eerily so. I was shocked, I thought maybe it was because people were just so blown away by what ever they announced. It turns out, it was the opposite, there really was nothing to talk about.

Sure, they announced the new Diablo 3 class, the Demon Hunter. I called that, but, I'm sure everyone else did too. There was also some StarCraft II news. Apparently Blizzard is going to be providing the community with some customs game type maps. Alright, cool. I don't mean to sound like these announcements aren't important. It's just a bit disappointing to see that these were really the two biggest announcements at BlizzCon this year. I've been playing WoW for almost four years, so, I've seen my share of BlizzCons, and this one has been the slowest one for news yet! Heck, I mean with Cataclysm coming out and Diablo 3 on the horizon, still no date (wtf blizz), I think Blizzard just assumed that it's community is quite content at the moment. There would be no reason for them to announce the new ip this year. And, while this is true, I mean I have enough on my plate already, another game, might be the downfall of my college career! It still would have been awesome to see a little more news this time around.

The WoW news this year, well, if you could call it news, was basically as follows. Blizzard announced that they will be selling a new charity pet. Apparently, the Pandarien monk from last year was a success, over 1.1 million was donated by Blizzard to Child's Play. The new pet....Moonkin Hatchling! Cataclysm will be available for digital download, on the night of release, Decemeber 7th. Now, this is some news, that, while boring, is actually something of interest to the greater WoW community, Although, this is practically going to spell my downfall. Unfortunately, Cataclysm debuts right around finals time for me. My previous plan was to wait until finals were over and then purchase Cataclysm, you know to ensure, I pass my classes! Now that the option to buy Cataclysm digitally is there, oh god! I don't know if I'll be able to resist the urge to play it! The final bit of WoW related news, was all provided in the Lore and Dungeon panels. I'll include a link to MMO champion, that sums up what was discussed in these panels. Overall, good stuff in the panels, but, once again, kind of lack luster. Nothing in there really blew me away.

I'm starting to think that maybe BlizzCon, really is just a celebration of Blizzard and it's fans. Maybe I'm being a little to harsh on Blizzard, expecting them to have these big announcements every year. I mean there is only so much that one company can do! I guess I should stop looking at BlizzCon like E3 and start appreciating it for what it is. Hopefully, the lack of juicy news this year, hasn't stopped anyone from having a good time.

BlizzCon!

So today is the first day of BlizzCon, and of course I'm not there! God knows I wanted to be there, but, meh I live in Maryland, flights to California ain't cheap. It also doesn't help that it's right smack dab in the middle of fall semester. Free time is rather scarce for me, though, who would have thunk it? Considering I did just decided to start a blog the other day. I guess I have a weird way of dealing with stress, well more like giving myself more excuses to procrastinate assignments. Anyways, the moral of the story, there was no way in hell that I was gonna make it out to BlizzCon this year. It doesn't stop me from feeling left out and bummed that I'm not there though. I didn't buy any of that live coverage crap either, so I can't virtually pretend I'm there. That won't stop me, however, from trying to figure out, what the hell is going on in the cornucopia of awesomeness (apparently stench too), that is the Anaheim Convention Center for the next couple of days.

My plan is to follow Twitter, MMO-Champion, WoW.com, or rather WoW.joystick.com, like a hawk. I mean I know it's going to be the best way to hear about all the news first, and the best thing is, it's completely free! I'm hoping to put a blog post up tonight and tomorrow night, dedicated to BlizzCon related things. I want to take the news and various announcements, and offer my opinion on them. I am a WoW nerd, so naturally all of the WoW related news, is going to take precedent over let's say StarCraft II news. I'll be honest here, and admit that I've never played a Diablo game. However, Diablo , is incredibly intriguing to me. It's probable that I'll be discussing what ever they announce as the fifth class this year, it's invent able people. So be on the look out for these posts!

I do have a couple of predictions for what they are going to be announcing at this years BlizzCon. As, I stated earlier, along with the new class announcement for Diablo 3, there will be an array of announcements for this game, making it a very Diablo 3 centered BlizzCon. I'm sure there will be some form of a StarCraft II announcement,the title of the next game perhaps? As for WoW, eh, I don't really know. I think it's going to be a bit of slow BlizzCon for WoW related to news. I'm sure that it's just going to be more blathering on about why Cataclysm is going to be the best expansion ever! Which I'm sure it will be, but, recycled news, well it kinda blows.... Now, for the big announcement, I'm pretty sure, it's going to be Blizzard announcing what the heck their new MMO is. Hopefully, though, I really have no doubt, it is Blizzard we are talking about here, this game will look awesome! So these are just some of my basic predictions for BlizzCon this year. You'll have to stay tuned to find out if I really do posses physic capabilities!

Inaugural Blog Post; justifying this things existence.

Ahh blogging, I never thought I would actually be doing this here act. Blogging has always been something that I've always looked at as a way for people who have too much time on their hands, to waste time. It also seemed, at least in the early days of blogging, that people who had no social life, would turn to the internet for friends, seeking solace with complete strangers. But, as much as I do hate to admit it, I hate being wrong, I think both of these things have become more of a myth. It seems everyone these days is hopping on the blogging bandwagon, it's defiantly not just for basement dwelling emos. If anyone remembers LiveJournal, you'll know what I'm referring to here. The idea of someone having a blog, is becoming more mainstream. It seems people have found that using a blog, can be all sorts of useful! It's also becoming more of a thing that could help you snag a job in the future. And in all honesty, since I switched my major to communications, it has become apparent to me that the stress of having a blog, is actually a valid one.

I can see why a blog makes one's application stronger and why it is becoming more common for someone to include a link to their blog on their resume. For starters, it makes a job application more interactive for the person reviewing a resume. And, that alone, makes your application and resume all that stronger. I mean just think about the poor soul who sits there and looks at god knows how many applications a day. I mean we're all human beings here, that sounds incredibly boring, and unless something really sticks out, *cough* a blog *cough*, then they are probably just going to pick a person based on how much crap they have listed on their application. It's just basic human nature, to take the easy way out on stupid stuff like this, and I don't blame them.

It's not just about preventing the employer from stabbing their eye's out, it's also about giving them a better understanding of who you are. I mean if someone looks at all your credentials on a piece of paper, yes, they see "who" your are, but, not really. They don't get an understanding of how you write, they don't know what kind of stuff you like to do outside of work and school, etc. Having a blog about you, the real you, gives employers the best understanding of who they are going to be hiring. Yes, it's kind of scary to think that people you don't know at all, want to know everything about you! But, we are in the internet age, and people should just get used to it, I mean shouldn't we be happy that people want to learn more about us?

It's pretty much common knowledge that when you apply for a position, the potential employer will "google" your name, it's inventable. So instead of freaking about it, we should embrace it. What I mean is, rather then this being a disadvantage, facebook photo's I'm looking at you, turn it into a advantage. Practice googleing your name, try and get as much out there about you that you can. You want someone looking over your resume, to google your name and have information about yourself appear right away. If something non facebook related is coming up for your name, *cough* blog *cough*, it might distract from looking for a facebook page. Also, privacy settings people, it is your best friend on facebook! Also, making sure the empolyer doesn't have to scroll ten plus pages to find the actual you is always a plus!

Alright, so now that I've blathered on about the usefulness of having a blog, although, I'm pretty sure that 90% of the above, is me just trying to reassure myself that this thing is worth my time! I think it's time that I lay some groundwork for what I'm going to try and accomplish with this blog. The blog is called "/random." for a reason, because it's going to get pretty random round' these parts, that's just how I roll. I do however, want to try and use this blog as a resource, and archive for some of the little things I hope to write in the future. It will be a nice little place for me to store, compare, and heck, admire some of the things I plan to write. I realize that hardly anyone is going to read this, and that's okay, because this is really just a tool for me to use on my path to greatness! However, if by some chance, people do end up reading this, by all means people, leave some comments! I love feedback, it's the only way to get feedback, did I do something wrong or right? Let me know! My mom always says I take criticism too hard, and I do take it a little personally, but this is the internet right? I don't know you, so it's a little different, and I think it's something I need to get over. So with all these things, in mind, let the blogging commence!

Random thought: Okay, so it's pretty awesome that there is a font called trebuchet, and I am using it! However, Blogger! What in god's name..., why is Webdings a optional font on Blogger. I mean of all the font's, you go and choose the one, that is completely useless... I've gotta say I'm a little disappointed.
